I am going to give some pointers but if your personal style and preference contradicts my advice, that is absolutely fine. There are no wrong answers when it comes to personal style.

Do you like them for everyday wear? In general, if you are wearing a necklace all day, you want it to be pretty lightweight and small.

For special occasions? You can do so many things with this depending on how much you want to stand out. Generally the longer the necklace is the more you will stand out. Same goes for big pendants and brighter colors.
Also, do you like layering with other necklaces? Just keep in mind that you want the necklaces to lay about two inches apart to prevent tangling.
Choose a Pendant Size
Another thing to consider is the size of the pendant. Like I said, the smaller the pendant the less noticeable it is. Also, in general the bigger the pendant, the heavier it'll be.
Speaking of weight, the material also makes a big difference. Real crystal or gemstone being the heaviest, the glass, then resin and plastic.

Some people choose jewelry based on the meaning of the stone, while others simply choose the colors they enjoy wearing. Neither approach is wrong.
Personally, I usually recommend choosing a pendant because you genuinely like how it looks. If you love wearing blues and greens, you'll probably reach for those necklaces more often than a stone you bought only because you liked its name.

If you're looking for durability, stainless steel and titanium chains are excellent choices because they resist tarnishing and hold up well to everyday wear.
